Soaring to Great Heights
Volleyball is a competitive team sport that requires proper communication and coordination with teammates in order to secure the win. The objective of each team is to win a rally in order to gain a point over and over again until they are ahead against the opposing team and win all the sets allotted. The usual patterns of the touches consist of receiving, setting, and spiking. Since the court is a very congested and dense area, the sport also requires a high level of communication, concentration and consideration of the players and their surroundings to provide a good flow of the game, by avoiding mistakes and injuries. To prepare for competitions, both our teams (Men’s and Women’s) train hard every Tuesday and Friday. Juggling between schoolwork and CCA is tough both physically and mentally. To be able to excel in both areas, our players have to show the highest level of discipline and commitment.
Last year, both teams clinched the Silver during the POL-ITE and IVP Games. The Men’s team was awarded the Best Sports Team Award this year as well.
In order to build and improve on our team’s chemistry and camaraderie, we also have bonding activities organised, such as Bonding and Training Camps and Overseas Trip. For the past two years, during the September holidays, we organised trips to Bangkok to gain more experience and develop a greater exposure of the sport from training and playing against the stronger teams there. Our efforts and hard work paid off and are evident during competitions over the years. Last year, both teams clinched the Silver during the POL-ITE and IVP Games. The Men’s team was awarded the Best Sports Team Award this year as well. However, we will remain humble and continue to stretch and push ourselves even harder to achieve greater results, by striving for a Gold medal next season. Achievements aside, our club also aims to be a model of Championship Culture, by demonstrating accountability, commitment and ownership, to inspire other sports teams and athletes in the SP Community!
