Singapore National Games 2019

Every year around July-August, SP Swimming will take part in the Singapore National Games (SNG) which is organized by GetActiveSG. This year, SNG was held from August 3 to August 5. SNG is one of the main competition we take part in that is not a school competition. It is open to all swimmers in our club.

We would always strongly recommend our swimmers to take part especially the year1s and we had 97% of our swimmers who took part in it. This allows them to have the exposure and experience which will prepare them for the more important school competitions mainly the POL-ITE and IVP. It is also a form of team bonding as we get together to motivate and encourage one another for our events.

As the date got nearer, we practiced more on our starting and the turns of our event during training. We also did more sprints than usual. Although training gets tougher as competitions get nearer, it is always satisfying when we get to taste the sweetness from the fruit of our labor. Values such as ownership, commitment and perseverance were clearly demonstrated by our swimmers.

We were able to bag 7 medals from SNG. Nevertheless, what was more important was the journey we had together as a team which will remain memorable for us. We are also more than happy to say that one of our swimmers, Soh Chai Jin, was the second best performer for the Boys 15-17 Category with 55 points and was only 5 points away from the top performer.

With this experience, we are even more determined to work even harder for our next competition, POL-ITE, in November.
